The cup used a different structure to the surrounding ICS Ioroball Cups, which used four-poules-of-four-teams systems, followed by quarterfinals. This cup used an additional single-elimination-match instead of poules to decide which eight teams would advance to the quarterfinals. While the cup was already in progress, the decision was made to include consolation brackets, which were held after the main tournament. When the consolation brackets were already in progress (the 5th-8th place bracket was finished), the decision was made to cancel them because of time and weather concerns. The cup has overall been described as rather strange, with a number of controversies.
These include the adding and cancelling of the consolation brackets, numerous violent incidents and spectator troubles, the own goals in the Jeji vs Stelau match, the penalties in the Nautilag vs Gljed match, the strange ranking table published by the ICS Cup Commission after the main tournaments and other incidents (see here for a full list).
Most of the bracket was not played because of the decision to cancel the rest of the consolation brackets. The Aqualis vs Jeji match had already been played before the 5th-8th place bracket, and the Gljed vs Erinna match was played after. Aqualis and Gljed would have played in the 13th-16th place bracket.
The matches were later (a few weeks) held at a completely different venue (The Arena, Castenona, Crelina) as the 35 Castenona Ioroball Championship, but these matches were not accepted as part of the cup due to the different venue, though the matches themselves were recognised as proper matches. The Aqualis vs Jeji and Gljed vs Erinna matches were not re-held.
